MVSc - Master of Veterinary Science

MVSc stands for Master of Veterinary Science. It is a 2 years postgraduate degree program that focuses on advanced studies in veterinary medicine and related disciplines. The MVSc program is designed to provide in-depth knowledge and expertise in various areas of veterinary science, including animal health, animal nutrition, animal reproduction, veterinary surgery, veterinary medicine, and animal welfare.The program includes coursework, research projects, and sometimes clinical rotations or practical training. Students in the MVSc program often have the opportunity to specialize in a particular area of veterinary science based on their interests and career goals.


Course Duration - The MVSc is a two year full-time postgraduate degree programme.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates must hold a degree in Bachelor of Veterinary Sciences (B.V.Sc) from a university recognised by the Veterinary Council of India with a minimum of 55 per cent marks in graduation.
  • Candidates must have qualified in a relevant national or state-level entrance examination, such as the All India Post Graduate Veterinary Entrance Examination (AIPVCEE) or state-specific veterinary entrance exams, to be eligible for admission to MVSc programs.

Entrance Exams for Admission to veterinary Science

  • AIPVT conducted by the Veterinary Council of India (VCI)
  • GATE is primarily conducted for engineering disciplines.
  • Many states in India conduct their own entrance exams for admission to veterinary science programs. 
  • Some universities and institutes in India conduct their own entrance exams for admission to MVSc programs.
  • The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) conducts the All India Entrance Examination for Admission in MVSc
