Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates must have at least a 50% overall score (or 40% for SC/ST/OBC) in PCB in the 10+2 or equivalent exam from a reputed board or university. 
  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 50% is also necessary for the candidate's MBBS degree from an accredited university.
  • Following the completion of an MBBS degree, a 1-year mandatory internship is required.
  • In addition, they must pass the NEET-PG entrance exam administered by the National Board of Examinations or private institute exams administered by AIIMS, JIPMER, and others, followed by state counseling.

Admission Process:

To secure admission into MS General Surgery programs offered by Deemed Government or Private colleges, candidates must meet specific eligibility criteria and successfully clear the annual NEET PG examination conducted by the National Medical Commission (NMC). For individuals aspiring to enroll in either private or government institutions, active participation in their respective state's counseling process is obligatory. This counseling process is supervised by the State Medical Education Council or Committee in each region.

For instance, in the state of Karnataka, the admission procedure is overseen by the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA), which facilitates admissions to both private and public colleges. To secure a seat in esteemed colleges across India, candidates must also complete registration with the Medical Council Committee (MCC). The primary factors evaluated during the admission process include the candidates' NEET qualifying scores and the predetermined cut-off scores that correlate with available seats in diverse educational institutions.

Entrance Exams for Admission to MS Colleges

Candidates must be registered with the Medical Council of India or the State Medical Council. Furthermore, they must be eligible to take the NEET-PG entrance test, which is administered by the National Board of Examinations, or private institute exams such as AIIMS, JIPMER, PGIMER, and others, followed by state counseling.

  • The NEET PG is a national test for MD admissions that is administered by the National Board of Examinations (NBE). The annual online exam has a time limit of 3.2 hours.
  • Every year, an MD program is provided by the PG Institute of Medical Education and Research. An online entrance exam that lasts for three hours is required. 
  • MD programs are connected to the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, or JIPMER PG. These independently run programs frequently welcome new participants. This three-hour admissions test is taken online.
  • Students are admitted to MD programs each year by AIIMS PG, a division of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences. There is a three-hour time limit on the extensive online admissions test for these schools.
