MD - Radiology / Radio Diagnosis

MD in Radiology is a postgraduate medical program. In this program students deal with high-energy radiation, such as X-Rays, to diagnose and treat underlying medical problems. A Radiologist is also called a physician who discovers the problem after analyzing the cause by using Radio-technology and gives a suitable treatment. With the help of this course, students can gain knowledge about areas like the production of Radio-physics, X-rays, Radiography, Special radiography, Radiation detection, and measurement, etc. After completion of this course, Graduates have multiple opportunities to work as Radiologists, Sonographers, MRI Technicians, CT Scan Technologists, and various other positions in Private as well as in Government organizations.


Course Duration

MD (Radiology) degree is for a total duration of 3 years. This  course gives equal importance to both theoretical learning and practical hands-on exposure. The Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) is the regulatory organization managing  MD (Radiology).

Eligibility Criteria

  • Students must have passed the MBBS degree (50% for the General quota and 40% for SC/ST/OBC)
  • They must have completed the 1-year rotary internship and should have the completion certificate for the same issued by 31st March of the Academic year
  • Students should have obtained a provisional or permanent registration certificate from State Medical Council (SMC) 
  • They must also qualify for the NEET-PG entrance exam conducted by the National Board of Examinations or Private Institute Exams like AIIMS, JIPMER, etc followed by the counseling conducted by the state authorities.

Admission Process

In order to get admission into MD Radiology at Deemed, Government, or Private colleges, prospective students must meet the designated eligibility criteria and attain a passing score in the yearly NEET PG examination, organized by the National Medical Commission (NMC). Moreover, individuals seeking enrollment in government and private colleges are also required to partake in the state counseling procedure, which is supervised by their respective state's medical education council or committee. To illustrate, the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) administers the admission process for private and government medical colleges in Karnataka.

To secure admission to Deemed colleges across India, prospective candidates need to complete registration with the Medical Council Committee (MCC). Seat allocation is exclusively determined by the qualifying scores achieved in the NEET examination and the specified cutoffs set by individual colleges. Given the numerous clauses and criteria that must be met accurately, enrolling in the state or central counseling process necessitates unwavering attention and diligence.

Entrance Exams for Admission to MD Colleges

Aspiring candidates aiming to pursue an MD (Doctor of Medicine) program are required to participate in either the NEET PG or INI CET admission examinations. These two exams serve as entrance assessments for MD programs. In numerous states, admission to MD programs is contingent upon NEET PG scores, subsequently followed by state-level counseling procedures, including PGIMER, JIPMER, and AIIMS.

The National Board of Examinations (NBE) holds the NEET PG exam at the national level for MD admissions. An annual 3.2-hour online exam is required.

An MD program is annually offered by the PG Institute of Medical Education and Research. It takes three hours to complete the admission exam, which is administered online. 

MD programs are available through JIPMER PG, which is affiliated with the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research. These courses are privately run, and enrollment is yearly. It takes three hours to complete this entrance exam, which is delivered online.

A yearly intake is provided for MD programs by AIIMS PG, a division of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences. It takes three hours to complete the admission exam for these programs, which is delivered online.
