Eligibility Criteria

  • The candidate must acquire a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate (40% for SC/ST/OBC) in PCM in 10+2 or equivalent examinations from a recognized board or university. 
  • The candidate must also have graduated with an MBBS degree with a minimum of 50% overall aggregate from a recognized university. 
  • They must have completed the 1-year rotary internship and should have the completion certificate for the same issued by 31st March of the Academic year
  • Students should have obtained a provisional or permanent registration certificate from State Medical Council (SMC) 
  • They must also qualify for the NEET-PG entrance exam conducted by the National Board of Examinations or Private Institute Exams like AIIMS, JIPMER, etc followed by the counseling conducted by the state authorities.

Admission Process:
To secure admission into MD General Medicine programs offered by Deemed, Government, or Private colleges, applicants are required to fulfill the stipulated eligibility criteria and achieve a qualifying score in the annual NEET PG examination conducted by the National Medical Commission (NMC). Additionally, for enrollment in private and government colleges, candidates need to participate in the state counseling process overseen by their states medical education council or committee. For instance, the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) manages admissions to private and government medical colleges in Karnataka.
To secure admission to Deemed colleges across India, candidates are required to complete the registration process with the Medical Council Committee (MCC). Seat allocations are exclusively determined by the qualifying scores achieved in the NEET exam, as well as the specific cut-off marks designated for seats in individual colleges. Given the numerous clauses and criteria that must be meticulously met, it is imperative to approach the registration process for state or central counseling with unwavering attention.

Entrance Exams for Admission to MD Colleges

Aspiring candidates aiming to pursue an MD (Doctor of Medicine) program are required to participate in either the NEET PG or INI CET admission examinations. These two exams serve as entrance assessments for MD programs. In numerous states, admission to MD programs is contingent upon NEET PG scores, subsequently followed by university-level counseling procedures, including PGIMER, JIPMER, and AIIMS.

  • The NEET PG, a national exam, is administered by the National Board of Examinations (NBE) to applicants seeking admission to medical schools. An annual online exam lasting 3.2 hours is required.
  • The PG Institute of Medical Education and Research offers an MD program every year. The admission exam, which is conducted online, lasts three hours. 
  • JIPMER PG, or the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, offers MD programs. These programs, which are managed privately, have an annual intake. This online admission exam has a time limit of three hours.
  • The All India Institute of Medical Sciences, which is affiliated with AIIMS PG, offers MD programs on an annual basis. The admission exam for these programs is three hours long and is taken online.
