Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates must have at least a 50% overall score (or 40% for SC/ST/OBC) in PCB in the 10+2 or equivalent exam from a reputable board or university. 
  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 50% is also required for the candidate's MBBS degree from an authorized university.
  • After earning an MBBS degree, completion of a 1-year mandatory internship is typically necessary.
  • Candidates must be registered with either the State Medical Council or the Medical Council of India.
  • Additionally, they must pass the NEET-PG entrance exam given by the National Board of Examinations or private institute exams given by AIIMS, JIPMER, etc., followed by state counseling.

Admission Process:

For admissions to MD Anesthesiology to any of the Deemed, Government, or Private colleges, the candidate must have met the eligibility criteria as well as qualify for the NEET PG exam held every year by NMC. In order to be admitted to private and government colleges, the candidate has to register for the state counseling process held by their respective state medical education council or committee, e.g. KEA (Karnataka Examination Authority) takes care of the admission to Karnataka private and government colleges. 

For admissions to Deemed colleges throughout India, the candidate must register with the Medical Council Committee(MCC). The allotment of the seats is strictly based on the qualifying marks in NEET and the cut-off marks for seats in respective colleges. With multiple numbers of clauses & criteria to be fulfilled without an error, registering for the state or central counseling process must be done with utmost focus.

Entrance Exams for Admission to MD Colleges

Candidates who want to enroll in an MD or Doctor of Medicine program must take the NEET PG or INI CET admission test. NEET PG and INI CET are two MD entrance exams. Several states hold MD Admission based on NEET PG results, which are followed by state-level counseling sessions such as PGIMER, JIPMER, and AIIMS.

  • The NEET PG is a national-level exam that is given for MD admissions by the National Board of Examinations (NBE). The annual online exam has a time limit of 3.2 hours.
  • The PG Institute of Medical Education and Research offers an MD program every year. A three-hour-long entrance test is administered online. 
  • The Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, or JIPMER PG, has MD programs available. These privately run programs often accept new participants. This admission test is given online and lasts for three hours.
  • A section of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences called AIIMS PG offers admission to MD programs every year. The lengthy entrance exam for these schools, which is given online, has a three-hour time limit.
