BVSc - Bachelor of Veterinary Science

BVSc prepares students to become competent veterinary professionals. They learn to diagnose and treat diseases in various animal species, perform surgeries, administer medications, and provide preventive healthcare to animals. Additionally, students may have opportunities to specialize in areas such as small animal medicine, large animal medicine, wildlife medicine, or research. Students acquire knowledge and skills related to veterinary medicine, animal anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, surgery, animal husbandry, and public health. The curriculum usually combines theoretical classroom instruction with practical training in veterinary clinics, laboratories, and farms.

Course Duration - The UG degree in Veterinary Sciences (BVSc) is for 5 years and 6 months (compulsory internship) from any university in the country for 10+2 students and is 4 years for Diploma graduates.

Salient Features - 

  • Capable of doing research and in scientific inquiry and advancements in veterinary medicine. Students may participate in research projects, present findings at conferences, or publish research papers.
  • BVSc students receive hands-on clinical training during their program. They work under the supervision of experienced veterinarians in veterinary hospitals, clinics, and animal research facilities.
  • Professional Accreditation, can work in private veterinary clinics, animal hospitals, research institutions, zoos, wildlife conservation organizations, pharmaceutical companies, government agencies, and academia.

Eligibility for BVSc:

  • The students must have passed the 10+2/PUC/equivalent examination from a recognized board or university with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as mandatory subjects and secured 50% aggregate marks (45% for SC/ST/OBC).
  • The student should be 17 years of age by December 2023.
  • The Students must have qualified in any one entrance exam: NEET, AAU VET, UP Veterinary Entrance Exam, OUAT, and RPVT.

Admission Process

Admission for the Bachelor of Veterinary Sciences (BVSc) is done based on the ranking in Entrance Examinations NEET, AAU, and UP Veterinary Entrance Exam, etc., or direct University Entrance exams. NTA conducts the NEET exam and NEET is a pen-and-paper-based exam conducted in offline mode.
