The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee and the Centre for Development of Telematics have joined forces to develop an affordable 5G transceiver, which aims to increase rural connectivity in India. This partnership has a focus on creating a cost-effective solution that will bring reliable high-speed internet to rural areas where connectivity often remains limited and expensive.
IIT Roorkee is popular for its research and technical expertise which helps by working with C-DOT to design and develop the 5G transceiver technology. The initiative aligns with India's larger Digital India and Atmanirbhar Bharat missions, which work to make digital infrastructure accessible to the nation, particularly in underserved areas.
By decreasing the costs which are associated with 5G equipment, this collaboration will seek to address the unique challenges in rural connectivity, like inadequate infrastructure and geographical barriers. The affordable 5G transceiver could support a range of applications, from education and healthcare to agriculture, by enabling seamless communication and data access in remote villages.
C-DOT, which is a premier telecom research and development organization in India, will be working to contribute its experience in network solutions tailored to rural environments. Their main aim is to build a domestic solution and also reduce dependency on foreign technology through the promotion of indigenous innovation.
This partnership between IIT Roorkee and C-DOT could significantly narrow the digital divide in India by giving millions of rural users access to high-speed internet and boosting socio-economic development in these regions.
