QS Asia University Rankings 2025: IIT Delhi Tops in India, Ranks 44 Globally

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has retained the top spot in India in QS Asia University rankings in 2025 by replacing IIT Bombay. IIT Delhi reached 44th place while IIT Bombay dropped down to 48th place.

A total of 163 Indian universities ranked in this year’s QS Asia rankings. Out of these 59 universities enhanced their rank while 51 universities dropped from their position and 31 universities retained their old spot without any change.

IIT Delhi has done a remarkable job in well in the ‘staff with PhD’ sector while IITB retained the best in academic reputation and employer reputation framework.

However, of Asia’s top five universities in Papers per Faculty, four are Indian. Anna University made a mark in this indicator, grabbing the second place.

Jessica Turner, QS CEO, said “India’s strong academic skills are clear from its high research output and the large number of faculty with PhDs, setting a high standard for universities in the region and worldwide, which also boosts India’s reputation globally.”

Also, she said “While Indian students studying abroad add value to campuses around the world, bringing international students to study in India is still a challenge. This is shown in QS’s International Students indicator, where most Indian universities have seen a decline.”
