NEET PG Counselling 2024 Brochure Updated with AFMC Admission, Eligibility Details

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) on Wednesday issued a revised brochure for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test postgraduate (NEET PG 2024) counselling on the official website at mcc.nic.in. The information bulletin of NEET PG counselling 2024 has been updated to add details of Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) counselling and eligibility criteria.

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) announced the NEET PG counselling dates for 2024 on November 1. The registration window is open for the first round of NEET PG counselling till November 17. On November 19, the Supreme Court is expected to review petitions against the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS).

According to a notice from June 26, 2024, the office of the Director General Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS) stated that starting this year, the MCC will manage counselling for Priority III, IV, and V candidates applying to Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) PG Teaching Institutes. The eligibility list for Priority 3 and 4 candidates will be reviewed and sent to MCC by DGAFMS after they screen the applications.

For those applying under Priority 5, seats will be given based on merit, choice, and available seats. Priority 5 candidates will also need to go through a medical examination at their allotted AFMS institute. Only those who pass the medical exam will be admitted.

Also, the MCC has shared important details about how a candidate’s admission or certificates may be cancelled during the counselling process if necessary.

Armed  Forces Medical Services counselling

The AFMS PG Teaching Institutes focus on training medical officers already serving in the Armed Forces Medical Services to meet their need for specialists. Here is how the admission and priority system works:

  1. In-Service Training: These institutes mainly train Armed Forces medical officers.
  2. Service Requirement for Civilian Doctors: Civilian doctors who are accepted into MD, MS, or DNB programs at AFMS institutions must serve as Short Service Commissioned (SSC) Officers for five years in AFMS.
  3. Remaining Seat Availability: After fulfilling the needs of AFMS, any remaining seats are offered to eligible candidates based on the following priority system:
    • Priority 1: AFMS officers selected for Advanced Specialist or Postgraduate (PG) courses.
    • Priority 2: Foreign students sponsored by the Government of India and AFMS officers given Study Leave.
    • Priority 3: Medical Officers sponsored by Paramilitary Organizations and other Government of India departments.
    • Priority 4: Former SSC officers of AFMS who apply within three years of leaving service.
    • Priority 5: Civilian candidates without previous AFMS service.

This structure ensures that in-service and prioritized candidates fill seats first, with any remaining seats offered to civilian applicants.
