For students who are preparing for JEE Main 2025, the eligibility criteria is 75% remaining compulsory for admission to reputed institutions like IITs and NITs. This requirement clearly shows that candidates who came from the General and OBC categories must have to score at least 75% in their Class 12 board exams. And for Reserved Categories i.e SC, ST, and PwD candidates are required to achieve a minimum of 65%. This rule is aimed at maintaining a high academic standard by ensuring that only candidates who have strong foundational knowledge are admitted.
This 75% eligibility criterion for admission has been a point of concern for students and parents especially after it was relaxed temporarily in previous years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which disrupted regular schooling and exams. Despite expectations that the relaxation would continue, the authorities have taken the original rule for the upcoming JEE Main exams. This decision affects the candidates who focus primarily on preparation for entrance exams and find it challenging to meet the 75% in exams.
This decision has resulted in mixed reactions from the candidates as a measure to uphold academic quality, while others argue that it may take out the capable students who excel in competitive exams and have less percentage in the board exams as per the requirement. For engineers who are aspiring, this shows the importance of balancing preparation for board exams with JEE studies to meet both sets of criteria.
