NEET 2025: Exam in Two Stages, Hybrid Mode Proposed – Panel Recommends Reforms for Exam Security
The reform committee has proposed a hybrid model, multiple-stage exams and a lesser number of attempts for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). Key recommendations on the conduct of entrance examinations have been submitted to the education ministry by the seven-member panel, formed after the NEET UG paper leak incident this year.
The panel led by Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chairman K Radhakrishnan suggested the National Testing Agency (NTA) increase the number of examination centres and recruit more permanent personnel to improve exam administration and security. It has also suggested limiting outsourcing and contract-based services.
The panel has suggested that the NEET exam can be conducted in the same way as the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE); in two stages. It has recommended conducting the NEET Exam in two stages to address the huge number of medical aspirants. Restrictions on the number of attempts have also been suggested by the panel.
Online Exam or Hybrid Model
The committee also advocated for a hybrid mode in which the NEET question papers will be transported digitally to the exam centre while students will write answers on an Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) sheet only.
This suggestion comes after the NEET UG 2024 question paper was allegedly stolen while being carried on an e-Rickshaw and solved by the cheating gang before the exam in a Jharkhand school, which was among the major centres of paper leak.
