The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has proposed Aadhaar-Linked Exam Registrations for students who want to pursue professional courses. These Aadhaar-Linked registrations will be done from next year. This proposal has been submitted to the Karnataka e-Governance Department by KEA.
This proposal has been submitted to avoid the risk of seat blocking, according to official sources.
“The e-Governance department is in favour of our proposal and they have sent a proposal to the Government of India for approval. We are awaiting the approval soon. Aadhaar-linked registration is proposed to ensure authentication which was not there so far, to prevent any mischief in the registration, and also ensure dissemination of exam-related information to students on their mobile phones”, said KEA Executive Director H Prasanna.
He also said that the authorities are planning to introduce Aadhaar-linked registration to recruitment exams KEA conducts for various departments to remove any malpractices.
This step is being taken as a response to the recent ‘Seat-Blocking Scam’ that was seen a few days ago, under the Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET) quota. Some students had blocked their seats, used the same IP address and provided wrong details like fake email IDs and phone numbers. According to a senior KEA official, the authority tried to reach out to students who had opted for the seats but did not join; but got no response.
