As the representative of medical students of Karnataka, the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) is pled for a mercy attempt for MBBS students from the 2021 batch to help them clear their backlogs.
The guideline issued by the National Medical Commission (NMC) is that MBBS students are typically allowed four attempts to pass their first professional exam. But because of the COVID-19 pandemic's issues, the NMC gave the 2019 and 2020 batches more relaxations.
The student group has refocused out that over 50 MBBS scholars from the 2021 batch at Karnataka’s Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences( RGUHS) are floundering to pass their first professional test this time, urging their demand for a mercy attempt for this batch as well.
On Friday, October 18, the Registrar (Evaluation), Dr. Riyaz Basha's history, and State Secretary Sanjay Raj of NSUI Karnataka met to discuss this critical issue.
Sanjay Raj told to EdexLive, “ The students from the 2021 batch have faced challenges due to the epidemic, analogous to those endured by the 2019 and 2020 batches. This is why we're raising this issue and demanding that authorities grant a one-time relaxation. Eventually, the decision lies with the NMC, and the university has assured us that they will escalate the matter to them. ”
The student group has also formerly transferred a representation to the NMC regarding the matter. Sanjay added that across India, over 1,500 students are floundering to pass the first professional test due to the assessed limit on attempts.
In recent history, other medical associations have also written to the NMC and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, prompting them to rethink the guidelines that limit the number of attempts for MBBS scholars to pass their first professional test, emphasizing that these restrictions produce gratuitous academic pressure.
