IITs Offer Fee Waivers and Support Services for Reserved Category Students

In India, it is the dream of every student to pursue his bachelor's degree from India's top college which is the Indian Institute of Technology(IIT). Every year more than twenty-four lakh students sit in the Joint Entrance Exam(JEE) to crack India's most difficult exam and so that their dream come true. To give relief and making easier for students to crack the exam without any problem IIT in India has announced fee concessions and many relaxations for the students from reserved categories.

The purpose behind this initiative is to provide equitable quality education for all students.

 

JEE based admissions

PTI reported that “In JEE-based admissions, fee remissions and waivers are provided right from the application stage. Students belonging to the SC, ST, and PwD (persons with disabilities) categories only need to pay half the examination fee” said IIT Madras Director V. Kamakoti.

V. Kamakoti also told to PTI …. "To provide the opportunity for the excellent education that the IITs provide to even more students, SC and ST students who receive scores below the relaxed selection cut-off receive special instruction through an initial program that enables them to register directly in the IITs after completing the course.,"

 

Citizen Service Centres

Starting in 2024, the JEE( Advanced) committee presented " Citizen Service Centres" nationwide to help campaigners, particularly those from rural areas, in completing their operations and paying freights through the online gate. This action aims to make the process more accessible and accessible for  scholars in remote  locales." The multi-lingual call center was also established to address campaigners' queries," Kamakoti said, as published by PTI.

He added that no matter what category, all 23 IITs would waive the whole tuition price for students whose parents make less than Rs 1 lakh. Those who fall under the SC, ST, or PwD categories are eligible for complete tuition waivers. Additionally, two-thirds of the tuition cost is waived for students from Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) whose parents earn between Rs. 1 lakh and Rs. 5 lakh.
