Electronics Ministry and NIELIT Launch AI, Robotics Centers with Maharashtra Board

The National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology collaborated with the Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education, Mumbai to set up centers of excellence and research and development centers.

According to the agreement, government polytechnics and engineering colleges in Maharashtra will receive skill training from the electronics and IT ministry. The ministry will set up centers of excellence focused on artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, the Internet of Things (IoT), Industry 4.0, 3D printing, and other related technologies. The partnership also makes it possible to establish research and development centers and submit partnership project proposals for funding to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and other governmental agencies.

Soon after setting up the center of excellence, NIELIT will handle the training and learning programs for both teachers and students, working together with industries. They will create useful course materials, help students find jobs, and take care of the center's operations.

Maharashtra has 40 government polytechnic colleges. The government has already set up a center of excellence for IoT at six of these colleges and centers for robotics and automation at three others. For the remaining polytechnic colleges, centers of excellence will be created using funds provided through an agreement.
