Delhi University (DU) will let students study two degrees at the same time. One degree must be done in regular mode from any DU college or department, and the other through open and distance learning (ODL) from the School of Open Learning.
According to DU's official notice, students who are already enrolled or are enrolling in a degree program at DU can choose to do two degrees at once. However, they can't take two similar courses, like BCom (Hons) and BCom (Pass), even if one is through ODL.
These rules apply only to students in non-PhD programs. “Read the official order”
Students who decide to study two degrees at the same time must fulfill the academic requirements for both programs separately. This means attending classes, completing internal assessments, submitting assignments, giving presentations, and meeting the criteria to pass for each degree.
To avoid repeating the same mandatory courses, students need to finish the compulsory courses for the degree they signed up for first, whether it’s in regular mode or ODL mode, according to the notification from Delhi University.
The notice also said that mandatory courses in the second degree would be replaced with suitable alternatives. For example, if a student pursuing a regular program first, they must complete the mandatory courses for that program. If they pursue an ODL program first, then the compulsory courses for that program must be the priority
For undergraduate programs, students must complete mandatory courses like Environmental Science (EVS) or Ability Enhancement Courses (AEC) for the first degree they enroll in. If these courses are also required in the second degree, they will be replaced with suitable alternatives.
For example, a student enrolled in the two undergraduate degrees will take the AEC language and EVS courses as part of their regular degree. For the second ODL degree, they can select a different AEC language or choose a Skill Enhancement Course (SEC) or a Value Addition Course (VAC).
Same, if a student is pursuing two BA degrees, instead of repeating a language subject, they can select courses from the open generic elective (GE) to avoid studying the same thing twice.
