The Association of Managements of Unaided Private Medical and Dental Colleges of Maharashtra stated in a letter to the state's medical education secretary that it would stall the MBBS and BDS Admissions at an institutional level from the second round, as their demands over pending fee reimbursements from the government were not met. According to the letter, a meeting was held between the association's representatives, some other officials and the Medical Education Minister Hasan Mushrif on 26 September 2024.
The association claimed that it has become difficult for colleges to sustain because of pending fee reimbursements against various scholarship schemes. In addition to that, newer schemes for girls belonging to the EWS Category have made the situation worse.
The association represents 40 Private Medical and Dental Colleges. The second Merit List for MBBS and BDS was released on 1 October 2024. The association had requested not to release the second Merit List till their demands are fulfilled.
The new policies do not allow the institutions to collect fees from the students, unlike before. This has made the institutions dependent on the government for funding and fee reimbursements.
