The state govt started planning to register all IITs, IIMs, and other premier institutes after a Dalit student from Uttar Pradesh lost his IIT seat due to delayed fee payment.
The institute which is first to be registered is the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Dhanbad, which was on Monday directed by the Supreme Court to admit the student, Atul Kumar the age of 18, the son of a daily wager from Muzaffarnagar’s Titora village.
According to the Social Welfare Minister Asim Arun, “IIT Dhanbad would be the first institution registered under this new initiative and will write to all institutes of national importance outside the state to facilitate seamless scholarship disbursement for eligible candidates.”
On Wednesday, the Uttar Pradesh government had decided and announced that it would bear Kumar's entire fee through the scholarship process.
The minister gave assurance to Kumar’s family to provide all the necessary financial help for his education which marks a proactive step towards him to provide higher education.
