NEET-PG Candidates File Additional Affidavit In SC On “Hurried” Counselling Process
Candidates of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test - Postgraduate (NEET-PG) 2024 have filed an additional affidavit with the Supreme Court regarding a hurried counselling process.
Initial Petition
On September 6, 2024, the candidates filed an affidavit for the last-minute changes to the exam pattern. Then the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) initiated the registration process for the first round of counselling on September 20.
On the same day, September 20, 2024, the Supreme Court notified the National Board of Examination (NBE) and the Union of India, requesting a response regarding the last-minute changes to the exam pattern.
Additional Petition
Due to a hurried and non-transparent counselling process, the candidates of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test - Postgraduate (NEET-PG) 2024 have filed an additional affidavit.
On September 23, 2024, an additional petition was filed regarding the hurried counselling process. The petition was accepted by the Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud, and the matter is tentatively scheduled for Friday, September 27, 2024.
Senior Advocate Statement
Senior Advocate Vibha Datta Makhija argued that the exam authorities had introduced a two-session exam pattern just a few days before the examination, thus leading to confusion among the student community.
Chief Justice of India Statement
At the last hearing on September 20, 2024, a bench led by Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra shared their concerns regarding last-minute changes in the exam pattern.
While seeking a response, the Chief Justice of India stated, “You are playing with the lives of students. This is very unusual. How can you change the pattern 3 days before the exams? Students will have a meltdown.”
