Govt To Launch Skill Voucher System Soon To Upgrade 1,000 ITIs: Key Highlights

On September 26, 2024, The Secretary in the  Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Atul Kumar Tiwari, stated that the government will soon launch a skill voucher system to enhance the country's skill development.

In Ficci's Global Skills Summit 2024, Tiwari announced that the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship combined to launch a skill voucher system soon. They announce that they will transform 200 industrial training institutes (ITIs) into hub institutions, and 800 spoken ITIs to develop the skills over other countries

.

Fundamental Changes to Reshape India's Skill Development 

The Secretary highlighted two fundamental changes to reshape India's skill development approach.

The National Credit Framework, introduced under the National Education Policy, Instructed that up to 50 per cent of degree course programmes should be skill-based or career education-based

.

Curriculum Changes

Tiwari stated that the curriculum for classes 6 to 12 has been revised for the skill set development and application-based learning.He also announced that they are going to work on apprenticeship-embedded degree programs to give an industry sector a defined role along with academics and students.

Atul Kumar Tiwari stressed the government's need to align skill development sets with industry requirements sets for future global outreach. He also stated that the government's intent is very clear that they would like to engage the students with different methods to emphasize the skills set along with the industry's requirements .

The Secretary has called for greater collaboration between industry, academics and government to scale upskilling efforts.
