Supreme Court To Hear Case On NEET PG 2024 Today Amid Allegations Of Irregularities

Introduction

The Supreme Court of India is going to  hear a critical case today regarding the NEET PG 2024 exam, which has been going through delays and controversies. Nineteen petitioners have challenged the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences over alleged transparency issues and irregularities during the examination process and the release of results.

According to the previous hearing on September 13, candidates have raised concerns about a potential paper leak, discrepancies in score normalization and the absence of answer keys which helps them to prevent from verifying their performance. Senior Advocate Vibha Makhija said that petitioners emphasized that the lack of clarity on the normalization process and missing answer keys has caused widespread confusion.

The Supreme Court has given a response  by issuing a notice to NBEMS which highlights the urgency of the matter. The next hearing on this case will be  scheduled for September 20, 2024,  as expected to address the candidates' demands for the release of answer keys and a fair resolution of the discrepancies.

According to the candidates, they remain in limbo as the Medical Counselling Committee  has not officially announced the commencement of Round 1 counselling. The MCC has now introduced a provision for aspirants to change their nationality status to Non-Resident Indian till l September 17 and obtain PwD certificates for counselling until September 25.

This ongoing dispute follows the August 9 dismissal of a petition which  seeks to postpone the exam due to issues with exam centre allocations. The Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, reiterated that rescheduling the exam would disrupt the academic futures of over two lakh candidates.

As the Supreme Court intervenes, NEET PG 2024 candidates await the outcome, and hopes for a resolution that addresses their concerns regarding fairness and transparency in the examination process
