Delhi Implements Mandatory One-Year Service Bond for NEET UG and PG Students from 2024 Onwards

On the 19th of September, the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Vinai Kumar Saxena, approved the introduction of a one-year Mandatory service bond requirement on all medical students who graduate from NEET UG and NEET PG programs starting in 2024. This bond is applicable for both the India Quota and State Quota in medical institutes across Delhi.

Introducing One-Year Service Bond

The  Lieutenant Governor of Delhi imposed the necessity of a mandatory one-year bond for both undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG), including super-speciality medical programs, that students should serve in medical institutes under the Government's National Capital Territory (GNCT) of  Delhi.

Students are required to provide a bond totalling Rs 15 lakhs for UG courses and Rs 20 lakhs for PG studies for compliance. The bond cost will be waived when a doctor opts out from the service period.

NEET UG and PG Students 2024

UG students will be assigned posts as Junior Residents (JRs), while PG students will be posted as Senior Residents (SRs) in various hospitals under GNCT Delhi.

The Medical service bond committee 

 A committee led by the Dean of Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC),will be the authority to assess the need for additional Junior Residents and Senior Residents posts in GNCT hospitals across Delhi. The committee will evaluate the availability of positions, and if necessary, will create new positions for medical health service.

This mandatory bond service will commence from the following academic year.Students who graduate before the bond service can provide voluntary 

Services; students can avail the opportunity to serve in JR or SR positions.
