SC Issues Notice to Govt of India, Slams Last-Minute Changes in NEET PG 2024 Exam

India's Supreme Court issued a notice to the Government of India yesterday i.e. on September 20, 2024 (Friday) criticizing severely the last-minute changes it has made in the NEET PG 2024 examination. The step of the judiciary came through a bunch of petitions presented by medical aspirants, concerned by sudden changes in the timeline, eligibility criteria, and the syllabus of this examination, that caused confusion and anxiety among the candidates.

A three-judge bench headed by Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul bombarded the government and the NBE with questions on these changes that had come up this late in the game to rule that such acts distort the entire preparation process for students. "Unpredictable changes in an exam of such importance cause unnecessary stress and can severely impact candidates' futures", the court remarked.

The petitioners argued that the changes had no notice, that is to say, very little time left to renew their strategies for preparation. Most students, already working on tight schedules, have said that the uncertainty has an impact on their mental and emotional well-being.

The Supreme Court has sought a reply within two weeks from the government and NBE asking for explanations as to why such changes were carried out, and why adequate advance notice was not given to the students.

Not a respite for medical aspirants; people are looking forward to the reversal of the changes or more time to prepare. The next hearing will decide the final order in which clarity and fairness can be regained in the whole NEET PG 2024 process.
