National Medical Commission (NMC)

The recent announcement that the College of Physicians and Surgeons (CPS) in Mumbai will no longer be offering any medical courses has been withdrawn by the National Medical Commission (NMC). The decision has been accepted by students who desire to enroll in CPS postgraduate courses, by the decision of the High Court of Judicature in Bombay.

The first notice on date 16, August 2024, informed that all courses offered by the College of Physicians & Surgeons (CPS), Mumbai, will not be continued. The medical community's serious concerns were the main behind this decision. According to section 2(i) of the NMC Act 2019 and the definition of a medical institution under the former IMC Act 1956, CPS had been reviewed by the examining board. The CPS's unique status as the only institution of its order has made it a significant player in the region's healthcare industry.

The College of Physicians & Surgeons of Mumbai President, Dr. Ajay D. Sambre, showed his approval of the verdict by saying, "CPS welcomes this decision by NMC and with this decision, all negative comments and speculations will be stopped now." "Not only CPS, but the entire alumni of CPS and the future students have received justice," he continued. Serious concerns about the effects on regional dynamics have been raised by the decision to stop offering CPS courses. Even after NMC decided to reverse its ruling, the concerns have not been addressed.

It is believed that this move will improve CPS students' circumstances solidify the school's place in the medical education system and also help them to understand more deeply about their subject by making them more familiar with their subject which also reduces the workload of students and helps them physically and mentally.
