A group of medical students has filed a review petition challenging the Supreme Court's ruling, which dismissed the petitioners' writ petition. The appeal asks for a retake of the medical entrance exam and requests that the NEET UG 2024 exam be canceled due to suspected widespread malpractices.
The students claimed in their appeal that there had been noteworthy changes since CJI DY Chandrachud's decision to decide against a NEET UG 2024 retake. The order dated August 2, 2024, was primarily based because it was impossible to distinguish between the students who were the beneficiaries of leaks or malpractices and the honest ones. However, the newly discovered material evidence purports to establish a "Systemic breach/malpractice" widespread across states. The review petition said, "It requires judicial application of mind on an entirely new set of evidence which cannot go unnoticed in this matter of immense public interest".
"A 'City-Centre wise data analysis' (hereafter annexed as ANNEXURE P-) shows that, among the 4738 examination centers, about 60 centers had a success rate of roughly 80%, with four of these centers having an unlikely success ratio of more than 85%. Furthermore, of these 60 centers, 39 are located in Sikar. These centers ought to have been dispersed around the nation and, above all, ought to have come from major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and so on, as evidenced by all national-level exams. The review petition further states, In sharp contrast, the average percentage of successful candidates at 2417 other centers was below 50%".
In addition, the students allege that "16 mobile phones that were reported lost after the paper leak was revealed have been found in a pond in Dhanbad". Concerns regarding "negligence" in granting grace marks, problems with OMR sheets, anticipating paper leaks, and other matters have also been brought up in the petition.
