Changes of CAT Exam Pattern Key Changes Over the Years
Introduction
There have been no changes as such in the CAT Exam Pattern 2024. The last revision in the CAT Pattern was done in 2020. No changes have been observed in the pattern since then. There were many changes made in the CAT exam pattern in 2020.
Significant CAT Exam Pattern Changes
- The total number of questions was changed to 76 questions in total in 2020. In 2021, the number of questions was further reduced to 66.
- The number of exam slots increased to three, which was two before. The time given to complete each section was also reduced from 60 to 40 minutes. The total exam duration was reduced to 120 minutes.
- The structure of the exam goes somewhat like this- Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension, Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude. This has not changed much over the years.
CAT Exam Pattern
There were no major CAT Pattern Changes between 2014 to 2019. The only changes made were in the types of questions and their distribution. The Type-In-The-Answer (TITA) was less and Multiple Choice Questions were more in the 2018 CAT Exam. The number of TITA questions was reduced in the 2019 CAT. In addition, the Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension section was made harder than the rest of the two sections.
CAT Marking Scheme
- The CAT Marking Scheme too has not changed in the past six years.
- 1 mark is deducted for every incorrect answer and 3 marks are given for every correct answer. There is no deduction in the marks for unattempted questions.
- Overall, major changes have been observed in the CAT test structure from 2013-2014 when it comes to the duration of the exam and the number of questions. The number of sections also kept changing between 2010 and 2015.
- These were the major CAT changes that took place in the CAT Exam Pattern Over the Years. The pattern remained very much the same from 2020 to 2023. No changes have been made to the CAT Exam Pattern 2024 as such.
