IIM CAP 2025: Registration, Interview Schedule, and Selection Criteria
WHAT IS THE IIM CAP?
IIM CAP is a process through which, candidates can apply to new participating IIMs through IIM CAP [COMMON ADMISSION PROCESS] via a single application form. Candidates who have passed the Common Admission Test (CAT) can apply through IIM CAP. Selection will be based on the candidates' CAT marks
IIM CAP 2025
An essential step in the selection process for many newly formed and early IIMs is the IIM CAP or Common Admission Process. Candidates who have been shortlisted based on their CAT score. These IIMs use CAP to examine a standard Personal Interview (PI) and Written Ability Test (WAT).
They intend to reduce the workload for candidates who would otherwise need to go to several examinations and interviews for some specific IIMs. From 2024, the number of CAP Colleges has been increased to 10. The responsibility to conduct the CAP is given to one of the participating IIMs every year on a rotation basis. For 2024 admission, IIM Kashipur conducted IIM CAP.
IIM CAP Admission Criteria

- CAT score is a basic criterion for shortlisting candidates for the IIM CAP process. Each IIM has set its CAT percentile that varies year by year and by categories (General, OBC, SC, ST, etc.)
- An important step in the IIM CAP process is the Personal Interview (PI). Candidates are invited to the PI if they clear the CAT cut-off.
- Some IIMs may ask for a Written Ability Test (WAT) as part of the CAP. During this process, candidates are given a topic and asked to write a short essay.
- Academic performance in Class 10, Class 12, and Graduation is also considered in the admission process.
IIM Cap Calls Cut-Offs
The Minimum Cat Percentile Necessary For Candidates To Be Shortlisted:
- General Category: 92-95 percentile
- OBC-NCL Category: 74-85 percentile.
- SC/ST Categories: 55-70 percentile.
- EWS Category: 70-80 percentile, depending on the IIM.
IIM CAP Registration Process 2025?
Candidates must follow these registration steps:
- Log in to CAP conducting IIM website
- Click on the CAP 2025 tab
- Enter CAT ID and password
- If a candidate is a new user, they need to register as a new user
- Fill out the CAP form, upload the necessary documents, and click on submit
IIM CAP Selection Process
Candidate must follow the selection process steps given below:
- Candidates must select IIM campuses in the CAT application form
- CAP institutes shortlist candidates based on CAT score and predefined criteria for WAT-PI
- The CAP conducting IIM collates a list of candidates selected by participating IIMs and sends e-mails to the aspirants, mentioning the IIMs that have shortlisted them for WAT-PI
- The shortlisted candidates need to fill out an online form for participation in WAT-PI
- CAP conducting IIM will send an email informing the WAT-PI date and venue to candidates who confirmed their participation in the admission round.
- Candidates need to participate in the common WAT-PI process.
- The CAP conducting IIM sends WAT-PI score report to all participating institutes under the CAP
- Based on the scores received, each IIM prepares a final merit list and sends offer letters to selected candidates via email.
