Education Budget 2025 Highlights
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget 2025 with several key initiatives focusing on policies to strengthen Education in India:
- Expansion of IIT Infrastructure: Five IITs have been allocated funds to improve their existing infrastructural facilities to increase student intake and research scope as per the directives of the Indian government.
- Boost to Medical Education: To overcome the shortage of healthcare professionals, 10,000 more medical seats will be opened etc.
- National Centres of Excellence for Skilling: In a move to address the skill gap across various industries, the budget proposes the setting up of National Centres of Excellence for Skilling, focusing on advanced-level vocational training.
- Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence: The Government will set up a dedicated Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence with an investment of Rs 500 crore to promote research and integration of AI into various sectors.
- PM Research Fellowship Scheme: There will be increased funding under the Prime Minister's Research Fellowship Scheme to encourage doctoral candidates to pursue cutting-edge research across disciplines.
- Establishment of ATAL Tinkering Labs: A total of 50,000 ATAL Tinkering Labs will be set up in schools across the country to encourage creativity and innovation among students.
- Bharatnet Initiative: The Bharatnet Initiative will strengthen digital connectivity in the country by providing broadband services to government schools, so students can access online educational resources.
All of these measures indicate the commitment of the government to advancing education and skill development in India.
