Karnataka to Add Over 1,500 MBBS Seats for 2025-2026 Intake: The Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) has approved a significant expansion in medical education through an increase of over 1,500 MBBS seats in Karnataka. This is also by increasing new medical colleges to be opened in Karnataka such as a private college in Hunsur, Mysuru along with an increased intake capacity in eight private and 16 government-run medical colleges.
With this, Karnataka is set to overtake Tamil Nadu and have the highest MBBS seats in India. The state currently offers 12,545 seats, and this expansion will make Karnataka a leading hub for medical education in the country. The MBBS seats 2025-2026 intake is expected to meet the rising demand for healthcare professionals.
Also, two proposed government medical colleges at Ramanagara and Kanakapura would add another 250 seats when they start from the next academic year. There are some infrastructural and faculty concerns over some colleges approved for increasing the number of seats. It has been strongly advocated that there must be adequate inspection by the National Medical Commission (NMC) to prevent compromising on the quality standards.
It goes a long way in strengthening health care infrastructure within Karnataka and making greater opportunities accessible to aspiring medicos.
