Cabinet Launches One Nation One Subscription for Research Journals; Provides Access to Over 13,000 E-Journals

The central government has officially launched the One Nation, One Subscription (ONOS) initiative. This scheme, in line with the goals set under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, will provide eligible students, faculty, and researchers with access to over 13,000 scholarly journals from leading international publishers. The initiative is expected to benefit over one crore students across various disciplines, empowering them with high-quality research resources.

Under the ONOS initiative, members will be able to access 30 top-tier international research journals through a user-friendly digital platform. The scheme will cover more than 6,300 government-managed higher education institutions and central government-managed research and development institutions across India. This unprecedented access will bridge the research gap between urban centers and remote areas, ensuring that institutions, regardless of location, have equal access to global academic resources.

The ONOS initiative has been allocated a total funding of Rs 6,000 crore for the years 2025, 2026, and 2027, which will cover subscription charges for all participating institutions over these three years. In addition, the scheme includes an annual allocation of Rs 150 crore to support Indian researchers and authors, enabling them to publish in high-quality Open-Access (OA) journals.

This initiative aims to further India's vision under Viksitbharat@2047 to become a global leader in research and development. By enabling easier access to international scholarly communities, the ONOS scheme will foster greater collaboration and innovation within India's academic and research institutions.

Objectives and Benefits of ONOS Initiative:

This initiative is set to revolutionize the research landscape in India, providing critical resources to institutions and empowering students and researchers to contribute to global academic discourse.
