Manmohan Singh Passes Away at 92: Seven-Day Mourning Declared in Karnataka, Telangana

The central government has announced a seven-day national mourning in memory of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who passed away on Thursday night i.e 26 December, 2024 at the age of 92 as death of this congress leader is a great loss to Indian Politics 

During the seven-day mourning period, the National Flag is going to be will flown at half-mast across the country, and there will be no official entertainment during this period. Indian missions and High Commissions abroad have also been ordered  to lower the flag to half-mast as a mark of respect. The Cabinet is going to be scheduled to convene at 11 am on Friday to pay homage to the former Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh who is known as the ‘architect of India’s economic reforms.

A seven-day state mourning

has been declared by the Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in honour of Manmohan Singh. The Karnataka government also announced a public holiday for schools, colleges, and offices as a mark of respect on Friday.  

Similarly, the Telangana government has also declared a holiday for all educational institutions and government offices on Friday and announced a seven-day mourning in this period across the state for paying tribute to the former Prime Minister.  

The central government confirmed on this that the funeral will be conducted with full state honour. Singh’s mortal remains were brought to his residence at 3, Motilal Nehru Marg late on Thursday. According to news agency ANI, it is said that his body will be placed for public viewing to allow people to pay their last respects.
