Top B-School Entrance Exams Beyond CAT, GMAT, and CMAT

The Common Admission Test (CAT) is one of the most well-known exams for getting into postgraduate management programs in India. Every year, a large number of students take the CAT, but only a small portion succeed. This pushes many to look for other options to secure admission to top business schools.

The exams listed below won’t help you get into the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) like the CAT does. However, many well-known business schools across India accept these scores as part of their admission process. Some of these tests are also recognized by international universities.

GMAT

The following examinations are common in admission processes: Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) which tests critical thinking, quantitative, verbal and analysis writing abilities. Admission at many of the world’s most prestigious business schools is contingent on competency in this area. Moreover, you can also increase the probability of getting scholarships and improved employment opportunities after you complete your degree when you take the GMAT.

CMAT

The Common Management Admission Test is a test for management programs in institutions that are recognized by the All Indian Council for Technical Education. I

It is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) as a three-hour computer-based test. The exam tests your skills in areas like quantitative techniques, logical reasoning, language comprehension, and general awareness. The application deadline for CMAT 2025 is December 25.

MBA Admissions Tests

XAT

The Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) is another national-level exam for those seeking admission to postgraduate management courses. For 2025, the application window has already closed. This year, over 250 institutions will accept XAT scores for admissions to their management programs.

NMAT

The Narsee Monjee Management Aptitude Test (NMAT), also called NMAT by GMAC™, is a computer-based exam managed by the Graduate Management Global Connection (India) Private Limited (GMGC), a subsidiary of GMAC. The exam can be taken at test centers or online from home. This flexibility makes it a popular choice among aspirants across India.
