Expected Changes in NEET 2025: Key Updates and Insights
The National Testing Agency (NTA) is going to introduce significant reforms for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test UG 2025 to increase its integrity and efficiency. Some of the changes which are included:
- There is a shift from the traditional pen-and-paper format to an online or hybrid mode which is under review. In this hybrid approach, there will be digital transmission of question papers to exam centers, while candidates will continue to write answers on paper. This change has an aim to bolster security and streamline the examination process.
- A two-tier examination system which is similar to the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), is being proposed to manage the large number of applicants more effectively. This will be helpful for a comprehensive assessment of candidates' competencies.
- Currently, there is no cap on the number of NEET attempts. The committee has suggested a limit to encourage thorough preparation and by reducing undue pressure on the examination system.
- In response to previous incidents of paper leaks, recommendations include minimizing outsourcing in exam administration by increasing NTA's control over exam centers to improve data security protocols. These steps have a motive to ensure a fair and transparent examination process.
- There will be no major changes in the NEET 2025 syllabus and in addition to that, there is speculation about the removal of optional questions in Section B, following similar changes in JEE Main.
The committee has also introduced the following key reforms:
- The committee has recommended using online exams wherever possible. In situations where fully online testing is not found practical then they suggest a “hybrid” approach where exam papers are sent digitally to the exam centers, but students complete their answers on paper.
- The committee suggests a two-stage exam similar to JEE to handle the large number of NEET-UG candidates which would help manage applicants better and assess them more thoroughly.
- The committee has also advised limiting the number of subjects in the CUET to reduce redundancy, as students often retake subjects they have already completed in board exams.
- The committee has recommended that the NTA to hire more full-time staff to help in better organizing and managing the exams.
- The committee highlights the importance of improving data security and suggests that the NTA should control more exam centers to reduce dependence on outside centers
These proposed reforms are pending approval and are subject to change. Aspirants are advised to regularly check the official NTA website for any of the latest updates and prepare accordingly to adapt to the evolving examination landscape.
