The National Testing Agency (NTA) will now focus solely on conducting entrance examinations for admissions to higher education institutions. The agency will no longer be responsible for overseeing recruitment examinations. The Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said “We have started the process of restructuring the NTA by creating new posts and appointing new officers. This will bring fresh energy into the organisation.”
The minister revealed that the government is exploring the possibility of introducing computer-adaptive tests and tech-driven entrance exams soon.
The mode of NEET-UG 2025 examination is yet to be decided, Pradhan said. “There is an administrative ministry for each exam. For example, the administrative ministry of JEE mains is the education ministry and it will be held in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode with our permission starting from January 2025. The administrative ministry for the NEET exam is the health ministry. We have conducted two rounds of review meetings to decide the mode of the NEET exam. NTA will fulfil the expectations of the health ministry for conducting the NEET exam either in CBT mode or in Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) mode. It is our priority to ensure zero error as a service provider, but the mode of examination will be decided by the administrative ministry. We are having dialogues with the health ministry and a decision will soon be taken,” he added.
