Many postgraduate (PG) medical seats are still open after the second round of NEET PG 2024 counseling for All India Quota (AIQ) seats was completed. The Indian Medical Association-Junior Doctors Network (IMA-JDN) a group of doctors requested the government to lower the NEET PG 2024 cut-off.
In a letter to Health Minister JP Nadda, IMA-JDN pointed out that despite efforts by the National Board of Examinations (NBE) and other agencies, a large number of PG seats across the country remain unfilled. This, according to the group, is a serious problem as it wastes educational resources and limits the availability of trained specialists, which could impact healthcare quality.
The association emphasized that reducing the cut-off marks would give eligible candidates another chance to fill these seats, helping to strengthen India’s healthcare system. They argued that empty seats not only block medical aspirants from pursuing their dreams but also contribute to the shortage of specialists, which is already a major issue
