JNU Forms Panel to Explore Feasibility of In-House Entrance Test for Select PhD Programmes

Introduction

Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) constituted a panel on Tuesday to explore the feasibility of conducting an in-house entrance exam for getting admission for PhD in:

Admissions for the three PhD programs remain uncertain as the admission process will end on December 4 leaving prospective students anxious.

Alternatively, it has also been said that , ”JNU could request the UGC to include these subjects in the NET list, but it will be time-consuming and could result in further delay for the admissions process”.

One of the other options is to admit students through the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) program, but this would exclude candidates who will be qualified through NET or non-NET applicants.

A university official said.“The university is grappling with limited time and resources. Conducting in-house exams requires funding, and including these subjects in the NET list could take months.”

The officials suggest that the uncertainty may lead to an extension in the current admission process beyond December 4, 2024.

A committee member, who wished to remain anonymous, has also said that,

“The committee will soon decide whether to hold in-house exams or request UGC’s intervention, but either option could delay the admission process.”
