NCISM Pre-Ayurveda Programme: Eligibility, Syllabus, and 7.5-Year BAMS Course Details

Introduction 

The National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) has framed regulations for the Pre-Ayurveda Programme (PAP), aimed at preparing students for a Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) degree. According to the new guidelines, the BAMS course will be a seven-and-a-half-year course, including a two-year of PAP. The minimum eligibility for this undergraduate course is graduating Class 10, according to the regulations notified on October 25, 2024. Through the program, NCISM aims to imbibe the values of Indian culture and tradition through the Ayurveda Gurukulam model of education. 

NCISM introduces Ayurveda program eligibility 

Students who have completed Class 10 can participate in the Pre-Ayurveda Program at the senior secondary school level. A new form of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test, called NEET-PAP will be required for admission. 

 

Admission to AYUSH programmes at the undergraduate level is being conducted through the NEET UG, which is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

NCISM Ayurveda Program Cut-Off Scores

The NCISM Ayurveda Program Cut-Off Scores have been given below- 

General- 50%

SC/ST/PwD/OBC- 40% 

 

“An all-India common merit list of the eligible candidates shall be prepared based on the marks obtained in the National Eligibility-cum-entrance Test Pre-Ayurveda Programme, and the candidates, within the respective category shall be considered for admission to Pre-Ayurveda Program from the said merit list only,” the regulations said. 

7.5-Year Graduation Program in Ayurveda 

Those who pass the exam will be given admission to a 7.5-year residential graduation programme in Ayurveda, which has been divided into three sections- 

 

2 years of PAP

4.5 years of BAMS

1 year of compulsory internship

 

Students of the 7.5-year undergraduate course will be studying at an “Ayurveda Gurukulam” – a standalone residential Ayurveda institution or college along with the teaching hospital. 

The main subjects in the Pre-Ayurveda Program include- 

 

Sanskrit

English or other Indian Languages 

Physics 

Chemistry 

Mathematics 

Biology
