The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released the JEE Main 2025 information brochure on jeemain.nta.nic.in, which includes details about the 75% eligibility rule. This rule has not been removed for JEE Main 2025. To be eligible for admission to IIITs, NITs, and GFTIs, candidates must score at least 75% in their Class 12 exams or rank in the top 20 percentile of their respective boards. However, this requirement applies only to admissions, not to appearing for the JEE Main exam itself.
The 75% eligibility rule ensures high academic standards at top institutes like NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs. The rule is not a temporary measure introduced during the pandemic but a permanent requirement to maintain quality education. NTA recently confirmed this in its notification about JEE Main 2025, emphasizing that the criteria remain unchanged.
The 75% eligibility rule applies to General category students for admission to NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs. General category candidates must score at least 75% in their Class 12 exams. However, this rule does not apply to appearing for the JEE Main exam itself—it is only for the admission process.
For SC/ST candidates, there is a relaxation in the 75% rule. They need to secure at least 65% in their Class 12 exams to qualify for admission to NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs.
The 75% eligibility rule also applies to students who are giving again JEE Main in 2025 (droppers). The NTA notified in the information bulletin that droppers must meet the same 75% requirement to be eligible for admissions to NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs.
Before filling out the application form candidates must check the JEE Mains eligibility criteria given below:
