Recently, the reform committee proposed a hybrid model, multiple-stage exams and a lesser number of attempts for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). Key recommendations on the conduct of entrance examinations were submitted to the education ministry by the seven-member panel, formed after the NEET UG paper leak incident this year.
One major change recommended by the committee is to conduct the exam in CBT mode. This will help improve transparency and data security.
Restrictions on the number of attempts have also been suggested by the panel to make students take the NEET UG exam more seriously. Students will get a maximum of four attempts to take the exam. Earlier, there were no limitations on the number of attempts.
The panel led by Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chairman K Radhakrishnan suggested the National Testing Agency (NTA) increase the number of examination centres and recruit more permanent personnel to improve exam administration and security. It suggested limiting outsourcing and contract-based services. The panel also suggested that the NEET exam can be conducted in the same way as the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE); in two stages. It recommended conducting the NEET Exam in two stages to address the huge number of medical aspirants.
