CAT 2024 Preparation Tips: Time Management for DILR, VARC, Quant
Efficient time management is very important for appearing in CAT 2024, which is divided into three sections:
- Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR)
- Verbal Ability and Data Reading Comprehension (VARC) and
- Quantitative Ability (Quant).
Candidates should prepare for the exam with proper time management
1.Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR)
- Candidates should focus on accuracy over speed by solving fewer sets correctly which is much better than attempting all with errors.
- Practise all the sectional tests to develop familiarity with different types of sets.
- During the time of practice, the main aim is to solve 2–3 sets in 40 minutes to improve speed without sacrificing accuracy.
2. Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC)
- Candidates should dedicate 40% time to Reading Comprehension (RC) and 60% to Verbal Ability (VA) questions during preparation.
- Practice should be done for active reading daily from diverse sources to improve comprehension skills.
- In the mock test, spend 25–30 minutes on RC and the remaining on VA questions.
3. Quantitative Ability (Quant)
- Identify and prioritize strong topics like arithmetic, and algebra. Spend at least 60% of preparation time mastering them.
- Use the first 15 minutes in mocks to solve easy-to-moderate questions. Save complex questions for later.
- Practice daily for at least 1–2 hours by ensuring focus on conceptual clarity.
General Tips
- Allocate time based on strengths and spend more time improving weaker sections
- Use the Pomodoro technique to maintain focus during long study hours.
