Delhi Govt Implements 50% Work From Home Policy Amid Hazardous Air Quality

Delhi Govt has implemented 50% work-from-home measures because of the increased air pollution in the region. Environment Minister Gopal Rai urged private offices, industries and businesses to take similar steps to help in this situation. As Delhi’s average air quality index (AQI) continued to be in the ‘severe’ category on Wednesday, Environment Minister Gopal Rai announced work from home for 50 per cent of the state government’s employees. However, essential services such as healthcare, sanitation, public transport, fire services, law enforcement, power supply, water treatment, and emergency response operations will continue to work in full capacity to ensure public services remain unaffected.

50% Work-from-home Measures

Private offices in Delhi must switch to 50 per cent of their employees working from home. The directions for the same are to be implemented,” said Rai after a meeting with officials at Delhi Secretariat. According to the minister, significant vehicle restrictions under GRAP-IV have already been imposed.

“All Administrative Secretaries and Heads of Departments of GNCTD shall attend their respective offices and call upon relevant officers/officials as per requirement to ensure uninterrupted delivery of all essential and emergency public services. Hospitals and other public health-related establishments, Fire Services, Prisons, Public Transport, Electricity, Water, Sanitation and related Municipal services and other essential services are exempted from this order,” the order read.

At 7 am on Wednesday, Delhi’s average AQI stood at 423, with the most polluted areas being Mundka (464), followed by Wazirpur and Alipur (462). The dense smog also affected visibility, with only 800 metres recorded at the Indira Gandhi International Airport.
