Increasing pollution in Delhi has led the government to consider implementing work-from-home measures and an odd-even scheme. Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai said, “People, including children and senior citizens, are struggling to breathe and we deeply regret this situation.”
With AQI readings consistently above 450, the air quality in the national capital has remained in the ‘severe plus’ category since Sunday. Rai said a decision will be taken soon on implementing work-from-home measures. According to the minister, significant vehicle restrictions under GRAP-IV have already been imposed. Rai said, “We are analyzing the impact of these measures. If the analysis shows a positive outcome, we will take further decisions accordingly.”
According to Rai, this is a Medical emergency and collective action needs to be taken. “This is a time of medical emergency, and we all need to work together to address the situation,” he said.
As Delhi’s average air quality index (AQI) continued to be in the ‘severe’ category on Wednesday, Environment Minister Gopal Rai announced that work from home for 50 per cent of the state government’s employees.
