To address the changing demands of the business world, top Indian management institutes, including IIM Bodh Gaya, Amity University, and the Indian Institute of Social Welfare and Business Management (IISWBM), have introduced new MBA specializations in Logistics, Supply Chain, and Sustainability. This new initiative aims to train future business leaders with skills that are crucial for handling the challenges of modern business environments and the challenges of sustainable development
Courses in logistics, environment, healthcare, and leadership are specialized but are becoming more popular.
Surajit Chakraborty, an assistant professor and coordinator at the Indian Institute of Social Welfare and Business Management (IISWBM), said this trend is an answer to the changing pattern in the job market.
"More companies now want skills specific to their industry, so a general MBA might not be enough," he said. "Specialised programs give students the focused knowledge and skills that employers are looking for." The importance for professionals who can quickly make the transition into specialized roles in fields like sustainability, healthcare, or logistics is growing, he said, even though a regular MBA is still essential.
Amity University also provides two specialized MBA courses: one in logistics and supply chain management and another in supply chain analytics and management. These niche programs give practical insights that students can apply right away. "These courses allow students to dig into a specific field and understand the unique challenges it faces," Chakraborty said.
