The Joint Entrance Examination Main 2025 registration will be over in less than a week. This year, only 5.1 lakh applicants have completed their applications successfully. This year's registration process is moving slower than expected. Last year, more than 12 lakh students registered for the JEE Main during the same period.
One main reason for the slow pace of this year's JEE registrations is the challenges faced by the OBC and EWS Categories during registration. Additional documentation needed along with the application makes the process complex. Details like the category certificate’s ID, the date it was issued, and the name of the issuing officer, etc, need to be submitted. This complex procedure has led to confusion among students.
Amit Ahuja, a career counselling expert with Allen Career Institute in Kota said, “Many students are either unable to obtain the required documentation in time or are concerned they won’t meet the new criteria by the deadline. If these requirements are not eased, there is a risk that some students may be forced to apply under the general category, even though they are eligible for OBC or EWS benefits. This could lead to discrepancies and further complications during the admission process. In light of this, it would be practical for the NTA (National Testing Agency) to make the category certificate details optional for the time being, allowing students to complete their applications without unnecessary delays.”
