BITS Pilani Convocation 2024: Over 1,800 Graduates Conferred Degrees

Introduction 

The BITS Pilani annual Convocation ceremony was hosted recently on campus. The Birla Institute of Technology and Science conferred degrees to 1,832 students in BE, MSc, ME, and PhD programs. According to BITS, 5,681 degrees have been awarded this year by the institute including all campuses, programmes, and WILP programs.

The convocation ceremony was attended by Sanjay Mehrotra, the president and CEO of Micron Technology and S Somanath, the chairman of ISRO, who were awarded degrees, emphasising BITS Pilani’s strong tie to industries. The institute has secured an 81% placement rate nationally and 80% at the Pilani Campus. The top recruitments of the institute were done across IT at 42%, banking at 18% and finance at 16%. 

The institute also approved 72 research projects worth Rs 81.33 crore during the financial year 2023-24.

“The institute also reported a remarkable growth in PhD enrolment, with a CAGR of over 20% in the last five years, now standing at over 2050, out of which 42% are female scholars”, the BITS statement said. 

 

BITS Pilani Alumni Contributions 

At the event, 6 Alumni members pledged to contribute 1 million dollars each to the $100 million BITS Pilani Endowment Fund, which was launched during the ceremony. 

This year, Arya Kumar, Dean of the Alumni division, led an initiative to connect with alumni globally resulting in more than 150 alumni-led organisations that became Practice School Stations for Internships. 

The BITS says that Alumni have been helpful to the institution in reviewing the curriculum, mentorship startups and entrepreneurship, lectures related to careers, supporting clubs and organising cultural, sports and entrepreneurship events and fests.
