About National Institute of Engineering Mysore :

National Institute of Engineering, Mysore was established in 1946 and is one of the oldest engineering colleges in Karnataka. It has completed over 75 years of excellence in technical education. The institute was started by the visionary Sir M. Visvesvaraya. His values and vision continue to guide NIE. Over the decades, NIE has produced many notable alumni who have contributed significantly in various fields like technology, research, business, academics, etc.

It is recognized as a premier institute for engineering education and is graded A+ by NAAC, indicating high-quality standards.

The college is affiliated with Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU). NIE offers a wide range of Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and Doctoral courses in multiple specializations. It offers admission to undergraduate programs through COMEDK, CET, and management quota based on AICTE and the government of Karnataka’s rules and regulations and postgraduate admission based on PGCET conducted by Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA). Eligibility criteria and Admission process

The admission process for BE/B. Tech at the National Institute of Engineering (NIE) Mysore can be a little complex, but I'll break it down for you step-by-step:

Eligibility:

  • You must have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination with Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry as compulsory subjects.
  • Secure a minimum of 60% aggregate marks in Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry in 10+2.
  • Appear for and score a good rank in either the Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET) or the Consortium of Medical, Engineering, and Dental Colleges Karnataka (COMEDK-UGET).

Application Process:

Entrance Exams: Register and take either KCET or COMEDK-UGET. The application window for KCET is usually open from February to March, while for COMEDK-UGET, it's from April to May.

NIE Application Form: Once you have your entrance exam score, fill out the application form on the NIE Mysore website (https://nie.ac.in/). You can choose to apply for either KCET or COMEDK-UGET scores during this step. The application fee is usually around Rs. 1000.

Document Verification: After submitting your application form, you'll need to attend document verification at the NIE campus or designated centers. Bring all your original academic documents, an entrance exam scorecard, and a valid ID proof.

Counseling: Based on your entrance exam rank and seat availability, you'll be called for counseling rounds. During counseling, you'll be able to choose your preferred BE/B. Tech program and seat.

Fees Payment and Admission Confirmation: Once you've been allotted a seat, you'll need to pay the admission fees and confirm your admission by submitting the required documents.

Additional Quota Seats:

Apart from the general merit seats, NIE Mysore also offers a limited number of seats under the following quotas:

  • Management Quota: You can apply for this quota directly through the NIE website. Admission is based on merit and payment of a higher fee.
  • Sports Quota: If you're a national or state-level sportsperson, you may be eligible for a seat under the sports quota. You'll need to submit your sports certificates along with your application form.

Admission process & selection criteria

Eligibility:

  • Qualifying Examination: A pass in Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) or equivalent examination with at least 50% marks (45% for SC/ST/Category-I candidates) in aggregate.

Entrance Exam:

  • Primary: The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) score is the main criterion.
  • Alternative: If seats remain vacant even after filling through GATE scores, NIE Mysore may consider Karnataka PGCET scores conducted by the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) for some of its M. Tech programs.

Steps:

Selection Process:

Shortlisted candidates are selected based on:

  • GATE score: This carries the highest weightage.

  • Interpersonal skills and written communication: This may be assessed through an interview or personal statement (depending on the program).
  • The institute releases a merit list of shortlisted candidates based on the above factors.
  • Selected candidates are offered admission based on their rank and seat availability.
