Admission Process

Admission to UG courses at IIT Madras is based on your performance in the Joint Entrance Examination - Advanced (JEE Advanced). JEE Advanced is a highly competitive exam conducted by one of the IITs on a rotating basis.

To be eligible to appear for JEE Advanced, you must have qualified in the JEE Main exam. JEE Main is a screening exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

Selection Criteria

Once students have qualified for JEE Advanced, they will be ranked based on their performance in the exam. The top-ranked candidates will be offered admission to IIT Madras, based on their chosen preferences.

Post-Graduate

  • M.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering: GATE score in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) or Information Technology (IT).
  • M.Sc. in Physics: JAM score in Physics.
  • M.A. in Development Studies: Bachelor's degree in any discipline with a minimum aggregate score of 60% (55% for SC/ST/PwD candidates).
  • EMBA: Bachelor's degree in any discipline with a minimum aggregate score of 60% (55% for SC/ST/PwD candidates) and at least 3 years of work experience.

IIT Madras Course Admission process & selection criteria

Campus Life @ IITM

IIT Madras is a residential institute with a 617-acre campus. The campus is located on Sardar Patel Road, between the residential districts of Adyar and Velachery. Hostel : 

IIT Madras has a total of 20 hostels, 15 for male students and 5 for female students. The hostels are named after the mighty rivers of India.
