About IIT Delhi

India's independent research university is called the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, or simply IIT Delhi. Regarding technical education, it is regarded as one of the best colleges worldwide. A 1963 designation as a "Institute of National Importance" followed its establishment in 1961 by an act of the Indian parliament. Having achieved much already, it gained still another accolade in 2018 when the Indian government bestowed upon it the recently established title of "Institution of Eminence" (IoE).

Education at IIT Delhi :

The Departments, Centers, and Schools are the Institute's main academic divisions. Multidisciplinary research is arranged into programs. Below is a list of the different academic units; further information is provided later in this article. Departments engage in both research and instruction at all levels. The primary focus of centers is multidisciplinary research, with some postgraduate instruction as well.

Eligibility criteria :

Under-Graduate

BE / B.Tech

  • The minimum cumulative score required for passing Class 12 or an equivalent exam is 75%. 
  • Must have completed coursework in mathematics, chemistry, and physics in class twelve.

Admission Process

A candidate's eligibility for undergraduate studies at IIT Delhi is determined by their score on the Joint Entrance Examination - Advanced (JEE Advanced). A very demanding exam called JEE Advanced is offered by one of the IITs on a rotational basis.

You need to have passed the JEE Main test in order to be qualified to take the JEE Advanced exam. The National Testing Agency (NTA) administers the JEE Main screening exam.

Selection Criteria

Students will be ranked according to their exam results once they have qualified for JEE Advanced. Admission to IIT Delhi will be extended to the top-ranked applicants in accordance with their selected preferences.

Post-Graduate

  • GATE score in information technology (IT) or computer science and engineering (CSE) is required for an M.Tech. program in these fields.
  • M.Sc. in Physics: Physics JAM score.
  • A bachelor's degree in any field with a minimum cumulative score of 60% (or 55% for SC/ST/PwD students) is required for the M.A. in Development Studies program.
  • EMBA: A bachelor's degree in any field with at least three years of work experience and a minimum cumulative score of 60% (or 55% for those who identify as SC/ST/PwD).

Admission process & selection criteria

Depending on the course and department, different selection standards apply to postgraduate studies at IIT Delhi. But generally speaking, admittance is determined by combining the following criteria:

  • Score on entrance exam: To be eligible for most postgraduate programmes at IIT Delhi , students must score well on entrance exams like the Common Admission Test (CAT), Joint Admission Test for Masters (JAM), or Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). Course-by-course differences exist in the weighting assigned to admission exam results during the selection process.
  • Academic performance: The selection procedure also takes the student's undergraduate academic standing into account. This is usually evaluated using the student's percentage of marks or CGPA.

Scholarships

Scholarships for deserving students at IITD are significant because they offer these individuals financial support in addition to academic encouragement. Donor-endowed scholarships can supplement the IIT Delhi scholarship program and help more students achieve their goals of excellence. 

  • Merit-cum-means scholarships are available to BTech and MSc students with a CGPA of at least 6 and a family income of no more than Rs 450,000 annually. These scholarships are awarded to at most 25% of the students and provide a tuition waiver and Rs 1000 per month.  An additional 10% of students meeting the income criterion are provided a tuition waiver.  For all students falling under the SC, ST, or PwD categories, there is no tuition to pay.
  • Scholarships for teaching and research assistantships worth Rs 12,400 per month are offered to MDes, MTech, and MS(R) students. The fifth-year dual degree students who have a CGPA of eight or higher are also qualified for these assistantships.
  • A Teaching/Research Assistantship is given to PhD candidates, providing Rs 31,000 per month for the first two years of the program and Rs 35,000 per month for the remaining two years.
  • All PhD students are eligible for a grant of Rs 150,000  for travel to a conference once during their program. Students can win a second one of these awards if they exhibit proficiency in research.

IIT Delhi Placement :

As of right today, almost 400 domestic and international employers with over 800 employment positions in various industries have registered to hire students. According to the number of students offered, American Express, Bajaj Auto, Boston Consulting Group, Enphase Solar Energy, Intel, Praxis Global Alliance, and Strategy& were among the top recruiters on campus on Day 1. More than 50 students have received domestic job offers with annual compensation of more than Rs. 1 Cr. Approximately twenty students have been contacted by employers offering jobs abroad in Hong Kong, the Netherlands, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Certain pupils have opted for domestic offers over foreign ones.

Campus Life @ IITD

Creating a stimulating and innovative atmosphere is the main goal of campus life and events for students. A distinguishing feature is the advantage that the Management Student has in drawing upon the structure of a well-established quality institution like the IIT. In addition to the obvious benefit of excellent infrastructure, it provides a special setting for communication with talented students in various fields.

IIT Delhi Hostel Facility :

At IIT Delhi, all of the dormitories run entirely cooperatively, with elected student leadership overseeing daily operations under the guidance of specific faculty members. The Board for Hostel Management (BHM), one of the Boards authorized by the Student Affairs Council (SAC) of IIT Delhi, oversees all hostel activities.

As President of the BHM, the Associate Dean of Hostel Management (ADHM) is in charge of the hostel organization. Deputy/Assistant Registrar (Student Affairs) and Deputy/Assistant Registrar (Hostel Accounts) support ADHM (as part of the office of Dean of Student Affairs) with administrative duties.

Library :

One of India's biggest and best-equipped libraries is the Central Library at IIT Delhi. The building is air-conditioned, five stories high, and more than 30,000 square meters in total. The library is home to more than 600,000 books, periodicals, and other materials. It also offers access to a vast array of electronic resources, such as one million e-books and more than 100,000 e-journals.To meet the various needs of its patrons, the library offers a range of reading halls and study areas. There is cozy seating and illumination in the reading halls. There are quiet study rooms, group study rooms, and private cubicles available for use.

Sports and fitness :

IIT Delhi sports ample playgrounds, track and fields. A 400-meter racetrack and a walking/running track are both features of the main playground. The following campus amenities are available to faculty members and their families:

• Olympic size swimming pool (SAC)
