ABOUT KARNATAKA INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL SCIENCES (KIMS): 

Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences, Hubballi, was established in August 1957. It is  a government-aided institution committed to Medical Education. The present Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences was previously known as Karnataka Medical College. Initially KIMS functioned as a Medical College under the jurisdiction of University of Mysore before the formation of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, in the year 1996. Consequently, KIMS was affiliated. 

It is approved by NMC and thus, it offers a varied range of undergraduate, postgraduate, paramedical and super specialty courses. The campus of KIMS is entirely equipped with the latest technology, infrastructure, technologically-advanced classrooms, state-of-the-art laboratories. Moreover, the campus is also endowed with fully furnished hostel facilities, separately for both boys and girls. KIMS aims to help students excel at their preferred field of study, keeping their well-being as the primary goal. Moreover, the teaching faculty comprises excellent and experienced professors.

The institution adheres to an all-inclusive curriculum to facilitate the students with a vigorous understanding of Medical Science and essential clinical expertise. The curriculum incorporates lectures, practical sessions, and a platform for research education, along with mandatory internships. The institute was the first ever institution in India to start a full-fledged course in Pediatrics. Students at KIMS are provided with many chances to participate in many co-curricular activities such as athletics, cultural activities and national health programs.

  • Scholarship and Internship Opportunities: KIMS provide students with scholarships for meritorious students and to students belonging to Economically Weaker Sections(EWS). Merit and National Scholarships are awarded by the State and Central Government, with amounts reaching up to INR 50,000 for eligible students. The Institutions offer internships that are essential for hands-on experience in medical departments. According to reports, more than 90% of the students secure internships, with many of them receiving stipends ranging from INR 15,000 TO INR 20,000 per month.

Eligibility Criteria

For Under-graduate students 

MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery):

  • Students must be of 17 years of age, as of 31st December, 2024. 
  • Students must secure a minimum of 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology from a recognized board.
  • Appearing in NEET UG (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test - Undergraduate) is necessary. 
  • After qualifying for NEET UG, students must enroll for NEET UG Counseling conducted by Karnataka Examination Authority(KEA). 

For Post-Graduates students

MD (Doctor of Medicine) / MS (Master of Surgery):

  • Candidates must have qualified for NEET PG (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test - Postgraduate) with a valid score.
  • Candidates must secure at least 50% marks in MBBS from a recognized university. 
  • Candidates must have completed one year of mandatory rotating Internship. 
  • Candidates must have a valid registration with Medical Council of India(MCI)

DM (Doctor of Medicine) / M.Ch (Master of Chirurgie):

  • Candidates must have qualified MD/MS degree from a recognized university in the respective specialty.
  • Candidates must secure at least 50% marks in MD/MS.
