Pursuing an MBA degree is nowadays very common but aspirants who want to pursue an MBA degree from India’s top MBA institutes need to crack one of India’s one of the most toughest exams called the COMMON APTITUDE TEST(CAT). The exam permits aspirants to get into top management institutes such as IIM or other reputed grade B institutes. Every year more than two lakh aspirants apply for the exam, and a little more than 10000 aspirants can crack it and get admission into a dream institute.
However, the desired candidate also enrolled with lots of untruthful facts regarding the CAT exam. This blog is going to clear the all common myths that can disturb any aspirant preparation.
CANDIDATES CAN REFER BELOW LIST OF ALL THE COMMON MYTHS IN THE CAT EXAM THAT THEY CAN FACE:
Many aspirants still think that only brilliant minds of the country can crack the CAT exam. It is not an exam for an average student.CAT is indeed difficult to clear but not so hard that impossible to clear. Many average students have proved it.
The CAT examines the logical reasoning, quantitative aptitude, and verbal ability, all of which are learnable skills with consistent effort in a student. The competitive nature sets the illusion of difficulty, but thousands of applicants pass the test each year with the appropriate approach and frame of mind. Any student can clear the exam if they have a proper schedule and roadmap with a proper mentor.
CAT only tests the normal quantitative aptitude of a student. It does not want any high-profile degree. Students from humanities can clear the exam by focusing on basic concepts and practicing regularly. The Quantitative Aptitude (QA) section of the CAT does involve mathematics, but the level is typically that of basic high school mathematics.
It is one of the perennial myths that students who have an engineering background have an advantage in the exam. This is because engineering students have to study math bin their whole degree year.
But candidates need to understand that it is very different it is not the math level that is demanded in CAT. Even engineering students have to practice the basic 10th and 12th math that is the original level of CAT because they forget all the fundamental concepts during their b.tech career as they study very high-level math which is applicable only in engineering, otherwise, they need to study all the syllabus like other non-engineering students. Students must remove this myth that technical background has the advantage because CAT is a platform where a fixed syllabus is set which must be read by the student no matter which background they belong.
This myth is very disturbing for the desired female candidates. It is a very false statement, over the years, female applicants have done remarkably well on the CAT. In recent studies, it has been proved that females have a higher level of focus than males. Gender is not a factor in CAT performance; only aptitude and readiness count.
It is also a myth among students that if they crack the CAT they will get selected for the IIM exam is primarily conducted for admission into the prestigious Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), it is not limited to them. Many other top B-schools in India, including FMS Delhi, SPJIMR, MDI Gurgaon, and IITs, also accept CAT scores. So, cracking CAT can open doors to numerous other prestigious institutions apart from the IIMs.
It is the most dangerous myth for a student who belongs to a very average family. Coaching can only offer structured guidance, but they are not the only way to crack the CAT. Now it is very easy for students to crack it without any top coaching due to mobile and internet as they are away from a single search. Every year there lot of students are selected from self-preparation.
The "Type In The Answer" (TITA) questions in CAT often intimidate candidates, leading to the myth that skipping them is a good idea. Unlike MCQs, TITA questions don’t have negative markings. Therefore, attempting them can boost your score, provided you have time and are reasonably confident in your answers. Don’t ignore TITA questions—they can be a game-changer!
There are plenty of myths surrounding the CAT exam, but don’t let them cloud your judgment. With the right approach, smart planning, and consistent effort, cracking the CAT is entirely within your reach! Focus on building your skills, trusting your preparation, and believing in your potential.
